Chief Information Officer, University of Victoria
Wency Lum joined the University of Victoria in 2016 as Chief Information Officer, and is responsible for the institution’s IT strategy, policy, governance and projects to enable UVic’s academic, research and administrative functions. In this capacity, she also serves on boards for BCNET, the higher education research network and shared services organization for BC’s 25 post-secondary institutions, and the Canadian University Council of CIO’s.
Having held a number of senior positions in the BC Government, Wency’s experience encompasses technology and business projects, Enterprise Resource Planning Systems, technology strategy, information security, and technology contract negotiations. Before joining BC Government, Wency was a senior consultant performing IT security assessments for the banking, energy, health, petrochemical, and gaming sectors in the US. She began her career implementing financial and supply chain management systems for United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Currently living in Victoria with her son and husband, Wency has worked, lived and travelled in Europe, Africa, Middle East, and United States. She holds a Bachelor of Science from McGill University and a Master of Business Administration from UVic. She is also a Certified Information Systems Auditor and Project Management Professional.
Director, IT, College of the Rockies
Jonathan is the Director of IT services at College of the Rockies based in Cranbrook a position he has held since 2006. The IT Services team at the college provides service to 7 campuses spread across 6 rural communities in the East Kootenay. In consultation with other stakeholders, Jonathan sets the technological direction of the college as well as put those plans into effect as the organization works to achieve its goal of “providing the most personalized student experience in Canada”
Since 2006 Jonathan has been an active member of both BCNET and other provincial groups. Hailing from St. John’s Newfoundland & Labrador, Jonathan brings a different perspective to BCNet Gatherings and as a return emcee to the provincial conference is looking forward to re connecting with colleagues and making new acquaintances.
